Part time or Full time Are you a Data Architect looking to move into a leadership position and lead the development of Data strategy for the UK's largest independent producer of official statistics? This Lead Data Architect role will see you providing a unified view of the great variety of data that ONS uses to create national statistics.

Working with the very latest technologies and tools, you will lead your team to help the division build the data capability of the Office. You will participate in many key decisions shaping the modernisation of the ONS through the design and governance of a new data architecture. This role is also at the centre of much of ONS' engagement with other departments and central government, including partnerships with the Central Digital and Data Office through the Data Standards Authority. Therefore, the work you will do will not be limited to benefiting ONS but also the wider public good, and your leadership will also be required across government.

Reporting to the Chief Data Architect, you will lead the core team to design the structure and governance of all data across the organisation and standardise how data is modelled and described across ONS. Responsibilities Lead Data Architect Lead the team of approximately ca. 20 data architects in the organisation, supporting the Chief Data Architect championing data architecture across ONS, and setting the standards and ways of working across the data architecture community inside the Office. This includes alignment with other architecture domains in ONS such as enterprise, business, solution and technical; Be a key member of the Data Architecture Senior Leadership team, representing the Directorate as required both inside ONS and across government; Be a skilled and proven leader, motivating your team to deliver a unified Data Architecture vision. Data Architect Work closely with Business Analysts, Enterprise Architects and Solution Architects to develop solutions which comply with the ONS data strategy, data policies and data standards, and with the appropriate data architecture. For a given area of interest, define the data architecture which meets the business needs and which complies with the data strategy. The scope would typically cover data management (including metadata and reference data management) and data governance; Produce and maintain data architecture artefacts such as data standards, business glossaries, conceptual, logical and physical data models, business process models, data journeys, data flow diagrams and data design patterns.

You will Have extensive experience of hands-on data architecture development with a variety of methodologies; Have participated and ideally led the development of a data strategy within an organisation, engaging with stakeholders and overseeing change; Have led and managed a team of Data Architects to deliver strategic goals; Have the ability to communicate complex concepts in a straightforward way to influence senior stakeholders and customers; Be able to communicate business stakeholder and user needs to a technical audience and ensure that the architecture delivers against those needs.
