Linux SME / SRE (Site Reliability Engineer)

Currently Home Working, Later Central London

As a preferred and trusted recruitment partner to one of the world's largest banks for over eight years, we are assisting in the hire of a permanent Linux SME / SRE to be responsible for the reliability and efficiency of Linux infrastructure through the delivery of common, repeatable tools and processes that greatly reduce the amount of toil the Operations team must perform.

Responsibilities include:

*Writing software to make the Linux infrastructure self-managing and self-service.

*Responsible for automation and continuous service improvement by developing Infrastructure as Code.

*Elimination of manual, repetitive, automatable, tactical tasks that are devoid from value.

*Availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring and capacity planning.

*Improving system performance, making effective use of resources, distributing load and reducing latency.

Skills needed (not all essential):

*Experience with multiple OS platforms such as Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, SuSE and Solaris.

*Linux system internals and kernel tuning.

*Configuring Linux operating systems for optimal performance.

*Performance monitoring, tuning utilities and commands.

*Security hardening principles in line with CIS industry benchmarks.

*Multiple programming languages such as Python, Perl and Bash.

*Container orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.

*Version control software such as GitHub and Subversion.

*Configuration management software such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform and SaltStack.

*"Infrastructure as Code" principles and practices.

*Continuous integration (CI) and continuous development (CD) principles and practices.

*Applications development using Agile, and DevOps best practices.

*Networking, storage, database and virtualization layers.

*Workload automation schedulers such as BMC Control-M and Hitachi JP1.

*Cloud computing - IaaS, PaaS and SaaS offerings across Azure, AWS, GCP and Oracle.

*Data security governance and regulations such as GDPR and SOX.

*Oracle X-4 and X-5 ODA appliances.

*Banking sector experience

This role may suit an individual who has held the following roles: Linux Admin, Linux DevOps, Linux Consultant, Linux Support Engineer, DBA, Linux SME, Site Reliability Engineer, RedHat / Ubuntu SME
