Group Manager to lead a team providing technology policy advice to ICO investigations and other activities

Technology is driving fundamental changes to our society, driven by the critical role personal data is playing in our digital lives. What role could you play in influencing the way we support innovation and technological change while also protecting privacy and information rights?

About us

As an independent body serving the public, the work of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is interesting and immensely rewarding. We uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. In the last year we have been involved with prominent issues ranging from addressing the use of intrusive technology in our personal lives, to the privacy implications of the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our work has never been so important or high profile.

The ICO's Technology group deals with some of the most complex privacy, data rights, data protection and emerging technology issues that society faces. The aim of the group is to make sure the ICO can assess and respond to these developments, and most importantly, to shape the future privacy, data and technology landscape.

We have vacancies for several positions across the directorate - roles that will help us shape how emerging technologies and information practices impact the lives of the UK public.

About the role

We are recruiting a Group Manager to lead a team providing technology policy advice, guidance and support to ICO investigations, audits and other supervisory activities. You will develop the team to ensure the Department's ability to support the wider ICO is underpinned by the latest thinking in relation to emerging technology policy issues.

You will play a key role in the wider organisation, identifying the real world needs of colleagues within the ICO in relation to the emerging technology related issues they are tackling, and working with their team and the wider Technology Department to help address these challenges.

About you

For this exciting role you will need 3-5 years' experience in a significant information technology or operational role, with experience of leading and managing people, built around Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) foundation, and coupled with experience and qualifications such as ITIL.

You will have experience of establishing SLAs, OLA's, and tiered service management and support approaches. You will be highly experienced in performance reporting and leading a team to deliver against agreed objectives in complex projects or in a compliance/regulatory/policy environment.

You will have strong research and collaboration skills - demonstrating an ability and passion to identify emerging technology issues, and a commitment to support the wider ICO in protecting individuals' information rights.

How to Apply

The ICO is committed to promoting and enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion. We welcome and encourage applicants from all members of the community.
