Don't just start a new role.
Shape a new part of our PMO.
Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we're responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. With plans to develop our Programme Management Office (PMO) and broaden our offer into portfolio management, there's a great opportunity to build a whole new portfolio function. Be part of an outstanding PMO - and help our projects to make an impact.
With so much depending on ONR's work, we need to be the best we can be. Our Project Management Office oversees a wide range of exciting improvement initiatives, making sure they meet their goals and contribute to ONR's broader strategy. As Portfolio Manager, you'll be at the heart of this work and the portfolio function's development, shaping the function to meet the needs of the organisation.
At the same time, you'll oversee day-to-day operations and hold internal projects to account. While the majority are IT-related, projects also involve regulation, HR and other areas. You'll have a unique, birds-eye view of all initiatives, giving you the insight to prioritise, make recommendations and provide strategic direction. You'll also review risk, dependencies, benefits and other key areas, and report progress to senior leaders.
A capable professional, you'll bring proven experience and a Portfolio Management qualification at Practitioner level. You could have worked in the private or public sector - either way, you'll understand the differences between project, programme and portfolio level. With this background, you'll have a strategic approach and the ability to spot cross-cutting themes and risks. And crucially, you'll be a people person - someone who listens, engages and influences. This is important because you'll need to work with the wider team to take plans forward. Blending expertise and interpersonal skills, you'll bring everyone at ONR with you on our PMO journey.
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £53,543 - £61,921. Furthermore, you'll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you'll receive a generous holiday entitlement.
ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear physics, HR and Finance. And together they're involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
