We're looking for a passionate PHP developer who delivers secure, maintainable and scalable solutions. You'll be experienced in Symfony, Doctrine, and PHP. You'll be accustomed to Javascript, and can work confidently as a full stack developer. A working knowledge of front end will be beneficial to this role.

We're looking for someone who is used to working in fast-paced start-up environment, who can take ownership of projects, be exposed to multiple technology stacks, and have a problem-solving attitude. We love design patterns and principles, design and architecture. The ones we follow closely are: OOP; DDD; BDD and TDD; alongside the SOLID and DRY principles. We like to be open, inventive, and we are still learning.

A strong understanding of testing best practices and knowledge of Python will be beneficial in this role, and we rely on behavioural testing. You should be comfortable with Behat too.

About the role

This role will be a pivotal part of our product rebuild, and will be a key figure in continuous improvement of our product for future markets and iterations. The team regularly undertakes code reviews and design discussions, this role will have a strong input here.

Our product is the industry leading cyber security education product, CyberStart, used by over 200k students across the UK and US. The product, built mainly for young adults, is an engaging cyber security game where students take on the role of an agent in the cyber protection agency and get to hack, forensicate and code break their way through levels filled with a rich narrative, immersive design and realistic security labs. Our tech stack

Backend is for the most part PHP and based on Symfony.

Our product rebuild has seen us rewrite our product in Symfony, Apache Kakfa and Lambdas on AWS.

Twig template engine.

Typically, the frontend uses Vanilla Javascript, HTML, and SCSS.

MySQL and Aurora DB.

Doctrine.

DynamoDB, S3.

Jenkins and Github Actions.

Docker.

Python.

Bash.

About us 

We have a split remote/office-based workforce, this position would mean you would have the option to be either work remotely, or be located at our amazing open plan office in Ascott-under-Wychwood, which has hosted some fantastic team building and social events.

Once COVID restrictions lift, we will reinstate these events that have previously seen us escape from zombies, swing through trees, and construct our own gingerbread empires! Surrounded by Cornbury Estate fields, you'll have wonderful countryside walks on your doorstep (and a sheep or two), as well as fully stocked drinks fridge and onsite gym.

Level and salary 

For this role, we're looking for someone mid level.

Salary is negotiable and very much dependent on experience.
