The team

The Retail Lab mobile teams are part of the Retail Transformation directorate and are fully agile teams that strive for outstanding high quality. Joining our team, you'll have opportunities to participate in internal Hackathons, coding challenges and bi-weekly platform meetings and be a member of a phenomenal engineering community passionate about sharing knowledge and learning.

Who you are?

A self- motivated Lead Android Engineer proficient in Android mobile development. You have a deep technical know-how from crafting, developing, and producing mobile components and services, stakeholder management working closely with strategy and UX/UI Design teams to architect, design and implement solutions and you love mentoring and educating less experienced developers.

You'll be championing Android, setting standards (modernising our apps, adding new features, building bespoke API etc.), and exploring new technologies and software products; seizing learning and knowledge-sharing opportunities is in our hearts to help craft the way our customers view finances providing a better experience. You'll be passionate about promoting engineering and collaborating and engaging with a wide variety of engineers in different areas across the organisation and our partners.

Required

Strong understanding of Android App life cycle from Modules to releasing of app to Play store

Deep understanding of mobile experience design for variable screen sizes in across versions of Android

Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks

Experience providing architectural and design direction and help shape and influence strategy

Extensive leadership of Engineering teams through line management, coaching & mentoring of developers

We're looking for hands-on experience of continuous delivery across areas such as code reviewing; understanding of basic App architectures (i.e. MVP) and you'll be confident working in an agile multi-functional team.

Nice to have

Cloud message APIs and push notifications

HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive web design as well as knowledge of web services

RESTful APIs from back-end services

MVVM architecture, Android Architecture Components

Salary and Benefits package: £81, 120 - £101, 400 base salary, plus excellent benefits including a 4% flex cash pot to spend on benefits (or take as cash), generous employer pension contribution up to 15%, 30 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays, discretionary variable annual performance bonus and private medical health cover, share schemes and access to staff discounts!
