We are committed to being supportive in everything we do: In our work In our communications To our environment To each other To ourselves About the Job We are undergoing a transformation of our IT organisation to improve the quality and capacity of our services and are seeking an energetic and passionate Assistant Director for Operations and Interaction (RUN) to deliver a great IT service directly to our circa 7000 staff and indirectly to over 600k residents and businesses in two vibrant London boroughs. This role leads a diverse team of around 50 to deliver all front-line IT-related services, support, and core infrastructure. You will ensure that incident management and problem resolution are highly effective and drive continuous improvement of all IT services. Building long-standing relationships with colleagues, partners, and suppliers, the role is accountable for the overall service delivery, taking an active role in the development of the internal IT infrastructure. This includes the modernisation of the technology infrastructure, whilst providing specialist expertise and advice on which technology supplier(s) we should partner with. Driving forwards continuous improvement initiatives the Assistant Director will initiate the preparation of tenders, taking a lead on the assessment of proposals based on pre-defined criteria. Ensuring the appropriate maintenance of ongoing contracts, the role leads regular service reviews with suppliers to monitor progress, whilst identifying gaps in delivery. About You This role offers you the ability to define and implement the acceleration of large-scale change across both partner organisations. As such, we are looking for you to provide proven experience of building a high-performing IT function and delivering a great operational IT service including spearheading continuous improvement initiatives from conception through to execution within a similar environment. Strong leadership and communication skills, along with a deep understanding of the technology landscape is a must, as you will be expected to advise senior figures of both partner councils on technological advancements and how we can utilise them within a Local Authority. You will have experience operating at a similar level, delivering an exceptional service within the public or private sector. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east.  It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium.
