Maximise the power of data to defend our country and its interests About us At the Ministry of Defence, we work for a secure and prosperous United Kingdom with global reach and influence. We protect our people, territories, values and interest at home and overseas. We are now modernising to address new opportunities and threats, many of which will come from the digital realm. We are primed to undertake significant financial investments in our future data capabilities. From back-office reporting to battlespace planning, we aim to exploit data in a fast, accurate and robust way. About the role In these two senior leadership positions, you will address areas of data exploitation. The first is to help us develop and exploit information around defence infrastructure. Innovating across a large and technically complex portfolio, you will introduce new partnerships, technologies and methods. This includes overseeing a workforce of some 80 staff providing data, information, visualisations and analytical outputs to inform strategic decisions on the estate. The second role is within the MOD Chief Data Office team. It will lead and develop relationships across the military and the wider community, including agencies, partners allies and with industry.  It covers all aspects of data (operational, analytics, MI, data science etc) to drive exploitation. You will be accountable for partnering with key stakeholders to ensure coherent direction and governance across fundamentals such as rules, standards and architectures.  In both cases you can expect to support frontline commands with their investment decisions. About you You'll need to be a strategic leader, able to grasp the complexity and diversity of the MOD and bring about transformational change. In particular, you will need a clear track-record of exploiting organisational data to create measurable benefits. Capable of commanding respect and confidence, you'll be ready to foster positive and mutually beneficial relationships across the MOD, industry and the wider defence world. Ready to engage customers and employees, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to negotiate and influence effectively at the highest levels. While familiarity with military operations would be an advantage, experience of harnessing data, analytics and insights at a senior level is more important. Personal resilience and a high level of integrity are both vital. Benefits We offer a range of benefits including a generous leave allowance, flexible working options, learning and development tailored to your role, and a Civil Service pension.
