Project Engineer
Our Haulfryn family has a fantastic opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our growing team.
Founded in 1935 by Frank Minoprio, Haulfryn is a family-owned company spanning 26 holiday and residential parks in North Wales, Cheshire, Devon, Cornwall and Wiltshire.
For over 85 years, we've remained true to our founder's values of authenticity, determination, attention to detail and exemplary customer service. We've always been an innovative, entrepreneurial and extremely progressive business and it's served us well. Today, we're one of the UK's largest holiday and residential park owners and we've developed a well-deserved reputation for operating the best, most beautiful parks in the country (take a look at The Warren in Abersoch and Finlake in Devon for just a few examples).
Following the recent appointment of a new CTO, we are seeking to completely transform our technology and digital capability, creating innovative new systems to:
Digitise the business (by improving ‘digital maturity' across our people, processes, operations and systems)
Grow the business (by creating new digital experiences for customers and data and analytics capability to improve our decision making)
Transform the business (by identifying new digitally centric revenue streams)
We are now looking to expand our technology team and to lay the foundations for future growth. We are looking for a multi-skilled, inventive and entrepreneurial Project Engineer to work very closely with our park teams in South-West England.
Working hours will be flexible and defined by employee based on their projects. The expectation is that the role will typically require a standard ‘office hours' (M-F 9-5.30) pattern. Occasional on-call and weekend work will be required (which will be compensated via TOIL or overtime payments).
The successful candidate is expected to work on-site at our Devon parks for at least 2-3 days per week with occasional travel.
What You Will Do
As a technology Project Engineer, you'll be working with your colleagues on park and with the rest of the technology team to identify new opportunities to improve customer experience, team experience, efficiency and sales effectiveness. The scope of the role is extremely broad. You'll find opportunities that range from new EPOS systems and integrations in our shops, kitchen management, housekeeping, property management, customer websites, companion mobile apps and much, much more.
Obviously, you won't be expected to build all those things ‘hands on', but you will need to know enough about (or be curious and driven enough to learn) the domains so that you can shape the solutions, work with existing teams and vendors (or recruit new ones) and set out realistic plans. And you'll need to be on the ball commercially and from a customer perspective, so that you can prioritise your feature roadmaps.
Finally, you'll need to ensure that your solutions land well with customers and park teams - so training, handover and a degree of ongoing support will be required. We anticipate that roughly 70% of your time will be spent building new and 30% supporting.
What You Will Bring
You will be self-motivated, resourceful, relentlessly curious and addicted to practical problem solving. You'll be pragmatic, biased strongly to action and with a sense of urgency, delivering value to customers and appreciating that often, ‘done is better than perfect'. You'll be outgoing and a great communicator who makes friends easily, while being strong enough to prioritise and say ‘no' when required.
You'll be a technology ‘polymath', ideally with in-depth practical knowledge in at least one of the following (and you should at least be aware of all of them): digital / app development (ReactJS, HTML/CSS / Kotlin / Swift), SQL, Microsoft Power Platform, integrated EPOS systems, Kitchen Management systems. You should also have good boundary-crossing skills including project management, risk management, commercial awareness, and a working appreciation of good usability and HCI principles.
Why Join Us
We are a dynamic, driven and fun working environment found in some of the most beautiful locations in the UK. You will be doing a broad and autonomous role. You will have the scope and flexibility to do the right thing and make a real impact, tolerance for experimentation and finding new ways to do things and the opportunity and space to stretch and develop your career in a variety of directions that would not be possible in a ‘traditional' corporate technology role. In return we will provide you with:
Competitive salary
Bonus scheme
30 days holiday (including Bank Holiday allowance) increasing up to 35 days with service (pro rata for part-time)
Company Sick Pay
One Day Paid Volunteering Day
Massively discounted holidays at any of our UK holiday parks
