My ambitions and well-funded client within the Property sector now hiring for their new Head of Engineering. This is a London based company, however they intend to operate a remote first policy post Covid.They are looking for someone with experience as an Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer that enjoys the coaching part of the role and is looking for a split of hands-on development and leadership in their next position. Their current platform is written in Python so experience in this is hugely advantageous. When it comes to technical experience, they want someone who is confident in defining high level architecture and likes getting down into the detail. You will need to understand and fly the flag for the importance of data security demonstrating how these modern business requirements now need to influence system design. The new Head of Engineering will need to be well versed in the best practices for modern web development, in particular automated testing and able to make technology choices backed up by solid, well-articulated reasoning. The tech stack currently used is listed below. The new Head of Engineering will need to be familiar with most, if not all the technology used: Backend: Python (Django/Pyramid), Haskell, Postgres, Celery, RabbitMQ Frontend: React/Redux, Yarn, Stylelint, SuiteCSS, JAM stack using Contentful & Netlify Infrastructure: AWS (S3, Route53, CloudFront, Lambda, RDS), Heroku (Enterprise, Connect) An experiential bonus would be knowledge of financial systems especially non-trivial Stripe experience… From a "People" perspective the successful Head of Engineering will enjoy the mentoring of junior engineers and helping them develop their skills. Ideally you will already have experience of managing developers and setting objectives for their development. As the Head of Engineering, you will be the most experienced "hands on" engineer in the company and will play a big part in the engineering culture by leading by example. You will be expected to promote a learning culture and raise the bar for quality in the team. In this senior role you will be working closely with Product leadership team to help define the product road map making sure things are technically feasible as well as finding the right balance between maintaining a high-quality, robust platform and delivering new features quickly.
