Location: Cambridge, the job may occasionally require travel to the Antarctic. It is essential that the individual appointed to the job is flexible, physically fit and able to work in an often-challenging environment. Tours of duty in the Antarctic can vary but normally last from 4 to 12 weeks.
Closing date: 30 May, 2021 11:59 pm The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is recruiting a Business Systems Support Engineer to support various Business systems and interrelated solutions within BAS. Duties will include responding to user requests, configuration of systems, commissioning of new systems, evaluation of change requests and ensuring systems are fit for purpose and function as expected.
As part of the Business Systems team you will be exposed to all areas of IT, providing services to around 550 staff and contribute towards its success. We aim to attract the best people for those jobs Purpose The Business Systems support Engineer will provide support/development, analysis, documentation and awareness to all BAS users. Interpret and respond to detailed business requirements, ensuring that the systems or services to which you are assigned can technically deliver business needs. Make recommendations that will improve business efficiency. Evaluate and recommend ways of rationalising the current systems landscape. Qulaifications Relevant IT qualification. This could be either a degree or equivalent relevant experience. Other qualifications could include, MCSA Duties Be accountable for the technical and solution architecture of the systems or solutions to which you are assigned (eg. Common Data Environment -CDE) including any interdependencies with other organisational systems such as the data warehouse, finance systems, and integrations with other business solutions/systems. Provide input into the agreed enterprise architecture and ensure that your solutions are aligned and compliant. Oversee the design, development, testing and implementation of technical solutions and report on delivery commitments to ensure solutions are implemented as expected and to agreed timeframes. Analyse and define specifications for enhancements in performance of existing business system. Perform application configuration and provide support in installation and user sign-off. Provide systems support within a broad systems estate. Support IT testing during projects, change requests and BAU lifecycle. Involvement in the integration and rationalisation of the current business systems estate. To respond to users' support tickets and resolve issues promptly, and within defined SLA's Collaborate with contractors and external vendors in order to resolve issues. Partake in developing and communicating the strategic direction of the department. Undertake other duties as appropriate as requested by the BAS Director and/or within the BAS IT department.
