Your role

By joining us in National Data Exploitation Capability (NDEC), you'll become part of the UK's national security capabilities focused on tackling the greatest threats to the UK population and interests through the use of data exploitation and data science.

This is your chance to join a fast-paced team in a varied role that offers plenty of scope for learning and development. As a Data Engineer, you'll develop data products of varying complexity to support data-driven operational activities right across the NCA. Your responsibilities will include gathering

data from a variety of sources, managing large datasets, and identifying and managing data requirements to create a usable, best practice data product. You'll need to design and optimise the implementation of data flows to connect operational systems, data services and transformation for analytics and Business Intelligence systems. Your role will also involve manipulating large datasets to solve analytical challenges and provide support to intelligence-led enforcement activity. Beyond your technical skills, we'll be looking for you to line manage, support and mentor other technical colleagues.

You may also be expected to work directly or indirectly in tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse. This may involve exposure to child sexual abuse images and material, so please consider the sensitive nature of our work before deciding to apply.

Your background

We're looking for someone with the ability to drive change and improvements. You'll bring experience of cleansing, preparing and formatting complex data sets, and of designing scalable, futureproof data services. Your experience should also encompass creating or developing data modelling to support analytical functions within the business, and you'll have experience of maintaining a gold standard ETL pipeline.

If you also have a relevant degree, a postgraduate qualification or data engineering certifications, and a knowledge of cloud-based analytical platforms, that would be ideal.
