You will be part of bp's Data & Analytics Platform organisation, the group responsible for the platforms and services that operate bp's big data supply chain.  The portfolio covers technologies that support the life cycle of critical data products in bp, bringing together data producers and consumers through enablement and industrial scale operations of data ingestion, processing, storage and publishing, including data visualisation, advanced analytics, data science and data discovery platforms.  You will be part of the Data Hub team, which is the data clearing house for all of bp's big data and analytics requirements.

For this role specifically, you will be expected to develop the necessary platform capability on our data hub to enable handling of IOT data and workflows, integrate IOT data across different data sources and developing the process to allow us to publish and process IOT data for analytics use cases.

Platform Engineers (as a job family) will focus on underpinning or enabling technology platforms with a lens on volume, capacity, performance, stability, integrity and high availability.

About the job:

Work to professional engineering practices, including Internet protocols, coding standards and reviews, source control management, following site reliability engineering principles

Coaching colleagues to improve the quality standards and efficiency of delivery.

Build awareness of technology developments, running the delivery of process and system improvements, identifying and implementing continuous improvement plans for Platform Engineering and sharing best practice.

Advocate and lead a culture of security and compliance.

Enablement and provisioning of technologies for data ingestion/transfer, storage, and publishing. Design, test and operate custom built IT platforms.

About you:

Bachelor's degree, in Computer Science, MIS/IT, Mathematics or a hard science.

Deliver, lead and operate data platforms including.

Monitor service component capacity and initiate actions to resolve shortfalls.

Guide and support on use of methods and tools..

Design, code, test, correct,document complex programs and scripts from specifications, subsequent iterations, using standards and tools, to achieve a well engineered result.

Assess and analyse release components, scheduling, build and test, maintaining and administering tools and methods.

Translate logical designs into physical designs.

Produce designs using standards, including prototyping tools, physical data flows, file layouts, common routines and utilities, program specifications or prototypes and backup, recovery and restart procedures.

Install or remove hardware/software, conduct tests, correct malfunctions, and document.

Desirable criteria

Experience designing, planning, implementing, maintaining and documenting reliable and scalable data infrastructure and data products in complex environments.

Development experience in one or more object-oriented programming languages.

Experience with Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis, HDFS and in DB Systems

Experience in data related Services - Event Hub, IoT Hub, Kafka, Azure Data Lake Gen1 & Gen2, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse (formerly Azure Data Warehouse), Stream Analytics, Azure Message Queue, HDInsight Spark Clusters, Azure Synapse Analytics, HDInsight Hive Clusters, AWS IoT Core, Device Management, Greengrass

Expertise in development and managing operations of IOT streaming, IOT Edge processing, and Digital Twins
