Job Description

*Please note this role will be home based with travel as and when needed within the UK *

The Technical/Security Architect plays a hands on role in day to day Cyber security defence operations in addition to undertaking design and implementation of security enforcing technical controls. The role will require a technical background in Solution or Technical Architecture, where principles can be applied into security programmes of work. 

Experience delivering architectures to UK Government, Health and Policing as a Security Architect will be of high relevance for this post however, a good foundation of security understanding is more relevant. Support and training where necessary to develop an understanding of specific security concepts will be provided to successful candidates irrespective of experience. 

Hands on design and deployment of security enforcing controls to provide enhancements to the overall NPS security architecture. 

Support application development and product teams to review and risk assess the security posture of an NPS application - providing advice and guidance to enhance the security and privacy of any application under development

Conduct Security Assessments of Architecture design

Work closely with the wider Cyber Security team to impact assess emerging vulnerabilities and CVEs to ensure that remediation and action taken is appropriate

Review security technologies, tools and services, and make recommendations to the broader cyber security team for their use, based on security, financial and operational metrics

Documentation creation and review

The role is less policy and procedure based and more technically focussed. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate recent experience in the deployment and ‘living with' of technologies and infrastructure/tooling rather than strategic or policy creation. The successful candidate will join an existing team of Security Architects and Principal Security Architects.

Qualifications

Essential

Proven experience designing Architectures within a  medium to large enterprise

Extensive experience with Cloud-hosted software solutions - particularly client-facing digital applications for web and mobile

Good experience and technical understanding of Public and Private Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure and VMware

Familiarity with compliance & security standards across the enterprise IT landscape such as ISO 27001

Good hands on deployment and operation of security products such as Anti-Virus/Encryption/Device control

Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across a range of functions and teams. 

High degree of personal motivation and ability to self-manage

Desirable

Experience of assessing the risk profile of software solutions, understanding how these have evolved with modern, agile development and deployment practices

Documented experience and a strong working knowledge of the methodologies to conduct threat-modelling exercises on new applications and services.

Experience designing the deployment of applications and infrastructure into public cloud services.

Experience at a technical and analytical level of working with a SIEM

Experience working within a shared environment with multiple tenants and requirements. 

Knowledge of HMG security guidance and successful application of the principles within formally accredited solutions

Understanding of security within agile / DevOps project methods
