My client, a global leader in designing and building control and automation solutions across a broad number of segments, (notably; Marine, Industrial Process, and Oil & Gas), are looking to grow their Controls & Software team, and are looking for a Dynamic Positioning Systems Developer.

The Dynamic Positioning (DP) System Developer will be part of the Marine Automation team who are responsible for maintaining and developing the DP product encompassing position control (vessel modelling, thrust allocation etc.) and associated tools and functions (e.g. route planning, consequence analysis). The role combines engineering skills, particularly in the marine control and automation domain, with software implementation.

Main ResponsibilitiesSpecify and implement new developments to expand the capability of the existing DP System, or associated tools, for continuous improvement and/or simplification.Modernisation and porting of existing functionality to new platforms and/or operating systems as required.Investigation of issues reported on vessels in operation.Provide support for DP project, commissioning and service teams worldwide.Support discussions with stakeholders to map out the future strategy for DP SystemsEnsure full documentation of the standard products for internal and external users of the DP system.Comply with the relevant marine classification society design rules.Occasional travel to customer or other company development locations may be required.Essential requirements A minimum of 3 years working in automation and control or a similar technical disciplineDegree or equivalent in engineering, science or maths with computer literacy, or computer science.Demonstrated practical experience of utilising a high-level programming language such as C, C++ or C#Experience of software configuration management tools (e.g. GIT, Perforce)Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict timescales.Good written and verbal communication skillsStrong interpersonal skillsDesired characteristics (not essential)Network and communications protocols (Ethernet, Modbus, serial links)Familiarity with technologies such as VxWorks OS, Microsoft Visual Studio, .NET and WPFPrevious experience of Dynamic Positioning systems.Technical leadership skillsKnowledge of marine classification society rules (DNV, ABS, etc.)Knowledge of IEC 62443 & other cyber security standardsIn return you can expect a salary of up to £55,000 (dependant on experience), 10% bonus, and a 10% pension.
