Senior Software Engineer

Would you like to play a role in updating, developing and supporting the Royal Naval Submarine Command System (SMCS)? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Software Engineer at our site in New Malden.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be working on a range of development activities to develop additional capability, update and support the Submarine Command Systems (SMCS). This system allows submarines to gain situational awareness via Tactical Picture Compilation and weapons management capability for the Royal Navy flotilla including Trafalgar, Astute and Vanguard class submarines as well as future classes including Dreadnought.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work across the whole project lifecycle delivering a range of projects both to customers within industry and the MoD. It also gives you a unique chance to deliver a capability that will be in-service for the next 30-40 years and see your work in action on the Royal Naval capability. It will also give you the chance to work in a dedicated process driven engineering team, this will provide you with opportunities to learn, develop and progress within the team or wider BAE Systems Business.

 

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software Engineer will involve:

Analyse software requirements, create software design updates to support software implementation, ensuring that the overall system will behave according to its requirements

Write software according to coding standards and maintain existing software by investigating issues and identifying pragmatic solutions

Write software test schedules and run them to test the system, demonstrating compliance with the requirements

Document appropriate information, so that others can understand the software and the system.

Contribute to process improvement within the team to ensure that the team always looks to improve how it works

Liaise with other team members, teams and customers to ensure key information is understood

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience with programming frameworks such as Ada, C++, C# or .net

Strong experience working in Software Development

Experience of Structured Software Design, using formal methods

Experience Software Integration & Testing

 

Desirable:

Experience working on military based systems

Knowledge of COTS technologies e.g. Windows, VMWare

Experience maintaining a delivered product and providing support to the end user and customer

 

What we're looking for in you:

You will be a proactive and motivated individual who will be able to be productive alone and as part of a team whilst also being able to adapt to setbacks along the way. You will also have good problem analysis and solution identification skills. The ability to work to agreed budgets and timescales will also be beneficial to this role.

 

Location: New Malden

Salary: Up to £49,000 dependent on experience
