As part of the regional East of England Covid 19 LIMS Enhancement Programme, Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust (MSEFT) has secured £3.5M of investment to support the improvement of Lab IT systems within the ME8 Pathology Network catchment area.

The current phase of the programme is focussed on the deployment of the latest Clinisys Winpath Enterprise LIMS at the Broomfield site and integration of this system to the existing system covering Southend and Basildon sites managed by MSEFT Partner Pathology First.

With the announcement of further national funding to improve pathology IT systems the Trust has a clear vision of its proposed development programme to enhance the capability and accessibility of pathology services these development plans currently include:

1. Regional Order Communications System

2. Integrated Point of Care test management System

3. Regional Digital Pathology System

The Pathology IT Specialist will work within the MSEFT on site Pathology IT team to assist with project work as well as daily lab IT operations and support.

Project work will focus on (but not be limited to) the implementation of the new LIMS system at the Broomfield site and the integration of that system with the multitude of clinical information and analyser management systems within the Trust.

As a key member of the Pathology IT team the Pathology IT Specialist is also be jointly responsible for the continued delivery of an efficient, safe and effective IT service to underpin all pathology disciplines and is compliant with all relevant statutory and mandatory regulatory requirements.

Due to the specialist nature of NHS Pathology IT systems and the highly regulated environment under which they must be operated the postholder must have considerable experience of working within the regime of a UKAS accredited lab. Formal documentation of operational procedure, IT system testing and validation are an essential component of the role.

The post holder will be a highly experienced, self-motivated individual capable of communicating with stakeholders and service users at all levels of the regional health economy and working under pressure to agreed deadlines.
