Your new role
We're looking for a talented, ambitious Project Manager to join our Regional Investment Programme team in the South West, the largest of Highways England's regions. The role is crucial where you will be involved in the management of nationally significant projects.
Whether it's a building a half billion-pound road upgrade, delivering a package of environmental enhancements or taking responsibility for several £100m+ schemes, you'll be improving the region's road infrastructure, economy, environment and making our roads safer. We will expect you to help us deliver these projects to world class standards, keeping the needs of our stakeholders and customers in mind, and be able to operate in a complex environment, delivering high quality work to tight timescales.
You'll come to us with strong experience of leading on the planning and delivery of a project in construction, infrastructure or a related industry. You'll need to be confident in handling key aspects of project delivery including governance, commercial management, quality assurance and managing the performance of a project team and supply chain
Your ‘home' office will be in Bristol or Exeter but we work flexibly and trust our people to manage their time and whereabouts to hit the best balance between home and work life. Travel, nationally and to our regional sites and stakeholders will be required.
What you will be leading on
To be successful
A bit about us
Regional Investment Programme, part of Highways England's Major Projects Division, is responsible for delivering around 80 schemes worth in excess of £15bn that will enable economic growth and improve effectiveness of the strategic road network. These schemes and our mission are encompassed in the Road Investment Strategy 2 (RIS2) document that outlines our fully funded programme to 2025. We've stepped away from transactional project-based approaches to introduce portfolio management and regional accountability.
Why you should join us
At Highways England we believe in a connected country. We are passionate about creating a culture where colleagues feel connected, included and enjoy greater wellbeing to achieve this. We're proud that as an organisation we are continually striving to do better and actively encourage and support our colleagues to do the same with their careers.
If you put safety first, take ownership of your work, show passion for what you do, work effectively in a team, and demonstrate integrity in how you do it - then you'll be a great fit for our organisation.
The Regional Investment Programme team in the south west has built a reputation internally for delivery and a can-do attitude; we are proud of the improvements and innovations we have delivered. To deliver on our promises we need to build truly collaborative relationships with our supply chain over the next four years, holding each other to account on our behaviours and commitments. We enjoy what we do and are a sociable (when we're allowed to be) and engaged bunch. We want to attract people who will grow our delivery capability whilst contributing to that wider team ethos.
And finally, we reserve the right to close before the advertised closing date, so we recommend completing your application as soon as possible.
