The UKHO is on an exciting journey of digital transformation, developing world leading and lifesaving products that better respond to the needs of the mariner today and for the future. Business Analysts are a critical element of this large and expanding change programme and we are now seeking a Senior Business Analyst to take a leading role in large and complex projects.

About the UKHO

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is a world leading centre for hydrography, specialising in marine geospatial data to support safe, secure and thriving oceans.

As a trading fund of the Ministry of Defence, we Support defence, safe maritime navigation and marine development around the UK and worldwide. Working with a wide range of partners. We source, process, and provide access to data ranging from seabed to surface. We make this data available through our ADMIRATLY Maritime Data Solutions - a portfolio of world leading charts, publications, and data sets, found on over 90% of ships trading internationally.

Everything we do is underpinned by our core values: together, responsibility, excellence, and discovery. These are the guiding principles that help us work together to achieve our goals.

The role

The role of a Business Analyst is very varied but crucial in all aspects of the change lifecycle at UKHO. You will be dealing with complex systems and processes and will need to abstract these into models and documents that can be understood by both business users and development teams in order to contribute to business process improvements. You will analyse current services and processes and identify and implement opportunities to optimise these and analyse options for new and existing services. This will include producing a variety of models, such as data models, business process models and State Transition Diagrams.

You will need to be able to use your skill and judgement to determine the appropriate technical tools, techniques and approach required to solve problems. Experience of business process improvement is essential, along with the ability to evaluate and establish requirements using relevant techniques such as gap analysis and producing business cases and options analysis.  As you will often be working with senior stakeholders, you will also need the confidence to challenge firmly and use evidence and strong negotiation and communication skills.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
