Data Engineering Executive

We are recruiting for a Data Engineering Executive who will play a significant role in enabling BMJ to deliver value from customer and user data by enabling the intelligent application of our data and technology.

You will be responsible for the practical delivery of BMJ's data strategy by developing, maintaining, improving and monitoring data engineering and data integration processes. You will also be responsible for database maintenance and improving performance. As part of the role you will be expected to identify and fix data quality and/or process issues to ensure the accuracy and reliability of BMJ's data.

The ideal candidate will have good experience of data engineering and integration and the ability to work with source data in multiple formats and be able to analyse information in order to improve data quality and transform data into information for a variety of applications such as business intelligence.

Responsabilities

Design and develop data engineering processes using BMJ's data engineering and warehousing tool set

Evaluate business needs and create data sets in the warehouse to meet the organisation's data needs in line with BMJ's data strategy

Daily monitoring of data integration and engineering processes to ensure data is appropriately delivered as required to the business

Identify, develop and implement data quality processes to improve the reliability and consistency of data in the warehouse

Conduct routine database maintenance and performance evaluations to ensure the data warehouse is optimised

Provide end user support to investigate data issues and answer data related queries

Collaborate with the other teams in Data to deliver business wide projects

Write and execute user stories using Agile development methodologies

Liaise with external suppliers to resolve issues related to our data platforms and infrastructure

Qualifications

At least 2-3 years experience of data engineering or data integration with a high level of computer skills and with:

Strong SQL scripting skills, preferably using Oracle SQL Developer, with the ability to write Oracle stored procedures and with a good knowledge of Python or Windows powershell scripting

Good experience using ETL tools, preferably Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services

Good analytical skills related to working with data formats including CSV, XML and JSON

Good understanding of data modelling concepts, for example Kimball Star Schema or Snowflake schema, to define structures in the data warehouse

Ability to continuously improve processes with a focus on automation and efficiency 

Experience in building processes to support data transformation and manage data structures & metadata

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders and translate technical concepts to a non-technical audience

Understanding of agile delivery methodologies and experience of working in an agile development framework

Experience of database administration will be an added advantage.

Educated to degree level (ideally in computer sciences or similar) or equivalent qualification.
