Develop IT solutions to meet the Met's ever-changing needs

To protect London, the Met needs a range of technical solutions that often need to meet our often unique requirements. That's where our Technology, Research and Innovation (TRI) teams come in. They keep us at the forefront of new and emerging technologies, researching, developing and adapting the latest tools to create innovative solutions that meet our needs.

Join us as a development engineer and you'll play a key role in developing bespoke solutions for some of the most sensitive and specialist areas within the Met and the national police network. Working across the entire development lifecycle, you'll be involved in everything from developing requirements with customers and producing system designs, to turning those designs into fully operational products for use in the field, and on-going support.

It's exciting and varied work - you could be involved in designing, modelling, prototyping, coding or testing and acceptance. You could also be involved in high level support, analysing and fixing complex faults. This means you'll need strong coding skills in either C#, JavaScript or C/C++, ideally with knowledge of SQL. With experience of at least one MVC framework such as .NET Core or Node.js, you'll also be comfortable using command-line Linux and will be aware of version control practices

Just as important, you'll be a confident communicator, with the ability to work with people at all levels, translate business needs into technical solutions and produce clear documentation. With the ability to adapt to new technologies, you'll be used to designing and manufacturing bespoke solutions. You'll also have a logical approach to your work, with the ability to identify the best approach and the determination to see it through to completion.

Completed applications must be submitted by 9th May 2021.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today's complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London's communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.

As a Disability Confident Committed Employer the Met have committed to ensuring that disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.
