Use your electronics or mechanical skills to help keep London safe

At the Met, we're at the forefront of modern policing, using the latest technologies to keep London safe. Our Technology, Research and Innovation (TRI) teams are at the heart of this, developing innovative electronic and mechanical solutions to meet our evolving needs. Join us as a Technical Officer and you'll play a key role in ensuring our officers have the advanced equipment they need.

As a member of our Electronic Systems Development (ESD) team, you'll develop niche electronic / mechanical solutions to meet a variety of unique policing needs. This means you'll be involved in everything from designing and prototyping, to manufacturing, assembling and testing products or systems for use in the field, as well as on-going support. Working in the ESD lab and workshop, you'll also evaluate, recommend and modify specialist off-the-shelf equipment to meet specific needs.

It's a hugely varied role - one day you could be supporting software or hardware projects, doing 3D modelling or designing products, the next you might be reviewing designs, meeting customers or testing products before release, either in the lab or out in the field.

You'll need proven experience of working in an electronics design environment and delivering reliable systems, ideally with an HNC, HND or equivalent in electronic, electrical or mechanical engineering. If you have knowledge of embedded systems, mechanical CAD, communication and RF systems, design for manufacture, 3D modelling or mechanical design techniques, all the better. Just as important, you'll be comfortable working closely with people at all levels.
