Job Description Who are we looking for? We are seeking an experienced lead engineer with substantial experience of designing and managing safety critical systems for machinery within our Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE) department. RACE is based at Culham, within UKAEA, specialising in remote handling and automated systems. This newly created opportunity will require you to provide leadership to support improvements for functional safety processes within RACE and aid as a subject expert in the standardisation of global organisational functional safety processes. If you have previous experience as a safety engineer or any experience with nuclear safety, we are particularly keen to hear from you! You must be chartered or working towards chartership and you will be responsible for the management and development of staff in the Electrical Systems Unit. A business-minded and delivery focused approach is required, as is the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of an organisation. What will you be responsible for? - Leading and supporting engineering design for robotic safety to meet and exceed multinational legislative requirements
- Engaging with designers, clients and regulators to enable challenging, especially nuclear, environments to meet safety case requirements
- Being technically responsible for the full engineering lifecycle design, build, test, integration and commissioning of refurbishment and greenfield site projects
- Technical leadership of a team of functional safety engineers to deliver projects on time and on budget
- Establishing quality management plans to support the manufacturing, testing, and commissioning requirements to ensure a safe and functional system
- Providing expert technical knowledge of functional safety principles to support the RACE portfolio in delivering Remote Handling System solutions Please note: You may be required to be part of the on-call systems for JET Remote Handling Operations and may be required to undertaken business travel within the UK and abroad. Qualifications Essential skills, experience and competences required: - Excellent understanding of Standards associated with Functional safety (IEC EN 61508 and ISO 13489)
- Previous experience of delivering functional safety life cycle documentation and independent technical evaluation of safety systems
- Chartered Engineer or progressing towards chartership
- Technology degree or equivalent experience
- Substantial experience of designing and managing Safety Critical Systems for machinery Desirable skills, experience and competences: - Experience of designing and managing Safety Critical Systems for Industrial, Rail or Nuclear industries
- Experience using ISO 10218 Robots and robotic devices
- TÜV functional safety certified - Functional Safety Professional (FSP) Additional Information What we offer - A competitive salary
