My telecoms client is looking for a Data Director for an initial 6 month contract with the strong chance of renewal.

This role has been deemed inside of IR35.

Why This Role Matters:

Data is critical to the operation and transformation of the Enterprise business, both internally and for customers.

The Data Director is responsible for the data strategy and data governance across Enterprise. This includes the overall management of the availability, usability, integrity and security of data used in an enterprise. The role holder ensures data governance delivers consistent and trustworthy data, critical for both transformation initiatives and to ensure Enterprise provides a world class experience to our customers and our people.

The external revenues of the products that are underpinned by data in Enterprise is in excess of £6.5billion.

What you'll be doing:

*Influencing BT Data Strategy including working with partners; implementing data governance; and in-depth understanding the underlying technologies and the data market needed to enable data innovation and transformation across a large organisation.

*Developing and implementing an information architecture and using disruptive data/information technology trends in order to lead the adoption of new and disruptive data analytics, techniques and technology.

*Owning the realisation of an insight-led Enterprise business to increase trading effectiveness and create new business opportunities to monetise data.

*Owning and running robust data governance including governing bodies and the delivery of a defined set of data policies, procedures, structures, roles and responsibilities for data stewardship (to ensure data is stored, archived, backed up and protected, along with audit controls to ensure compliance with procedures).

*Owning enterprise-wide data roadmap and strategic direction for data management including data warehousing roadmaps that provide accurate and integrated data.

*Owning the Enterprise Information Architecture (IA) including the structuring of data to support current needs and future transformation.

*Owning data technology and high-level capex roadmap for modernising legacy systems and assuring new solutions.

*Owning cross-functional data governance to drive adoption and adherence to data quality and process governance.

*Collaborate across the BT Technology, Group Strategy and Transformation and Enterprise organisations to align architecture, strategy, plans and investment with the data governance strategy.

*Work closely with BT Technology to define and execute an Enterprise Master Data Management strategy to ensure consistent usage of data and ensure we have clear masters of data.

*Steer investment prioritisation including the alignment of the annual capex plan to the roadmap, prioritising demand and investment decisions to achieve commercial outcomes and create business value from data.

*Ensuring accuracy of the Enterprise Repository system, base data, data flows, portfolio and manual processes.

*Use of the Privacy Impact Assessment process for portfolio, system and organisational changes.

*Ensure effective material controls are in place to manage any Data Processing risks.

*Ensure that Enterprise remains complaint to GDPR and any other data privacy legislation.

*Establish and maintain open, effective communication and clear channels for feedback to enable an inclusive working environment where your team feel welcome to participate and offer different perspectives.

*Lead a team of up to 5 consultants and experts in delivering business outcomes and data governance.

*Improves the skills and capabilities of themselves and the team, through mentoring, coaching and knowledge sharing.

*Works brilliantly with partners across the organisation and outside the organisation to form virtual teams that deliver business results.

Skills Required for the Job

*Technology thought-leadership: Draws on a breadth of technical knowledge and insight - current and emerging - to solve problems through the use and reuse of technology and innovation

*Strategic thinking: Able to create and articulate a clear vision, and translate to practical action and execution.

*Commercial: Understand the commercial model of the business and in turn evaluate risks, benefits and returns for having good data and ensuring it is clearly understood by key decision makers. Able to identify issues, get to root cause and address.

*Strong stakeholder management & influencing skills: facilitating data gathering and data usage across a large number of stakeholders, with a strong track record of buy-in and turning dissenters into advocates. Experience of navigating large, complex, organisational structures and challenging the status quo.

*Leadership: Bias towards action and bold thinking. Builds environments that encourage collaborative, innovative thinking.

Experience needed:

MANDATORY - Experience in a Director of Data or Data Officer role or equivalent level of responsibility with expert knowledge of data science.

MANDATORY - Expert understanding of the use and management of data throughout its lifecycle.

MANDATORY - Commercial experience of guiding a business through data governance.

MANDATORY - Experience with developing data strategy, policies, and procedures.

MANDATORY - Data security requirements (GDPR; PCI etc).

MANDATORY - Experience of driving customer and marketing analytics and insight.

MANDATORY - Strong understanding of data governance and its relevance to accurate data.

MANDATORY - Strong experience of delivering large scale transformational business change through technology, ideally through the transformation of data and insight.

MANDATORY - Experience of working across a wide range of internal and external partners to align plans and deliver business outcomes.
