About OQC
At Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) we are building quantum computers to enable life-changing discoveries : from new drug modelisation to longer-lasting battery technology and portfolio optimisation. We are developing a cloud based quantum computer service - Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) - to help our customers improve their operations and trailblaze new commercial and scientific approaches.
Our team is composed of 20 people with various backgrounds in quantum physics, nanotechnologies, hardware, and software. We are all bound by the desire to put OQC at the forefront of the quantum revolution and build a technology with practical applications in mind.
Role Overview:
As a Compiler Engineer at OQC you will be at the forefront of our efforts to put quantum computing in the hands of our partners and customers, enabling them to get the most use out of our hardware. You will be a part of designing the compiler for OQC's quantum computers.
Responsabilities:
Be a part of, and contribute to, architectural designs and discussions.
Evolving current processes within the software team, with a focus on enabling fast paced development without sacrificing robustness.
Inventing new algorithms and designing new data structures and models to tackle the unique challenges quantum code poses.
Liasing with the hardware team to create a robust instruction set and driver interface for hardware control.
Keeping on top of current research and newly released software in the area and synthesizing that into new designs and implementations.
Qualifications and Skills:
Required
4+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 of those actively working on commercial or academic compilers.
A bachelor's degree in a scientific, mathematical or engineering discipline
Broad working knowledge of backend compiler construction, including algorithms, data structures and concepts.
Comfortable with working in multiple languages that employ different paradigms such as C++, F#, Python.
A collaborative attitude, a willingness to learn and to teach others.
Desirable
Direct experience in creating/designing instruction sets for bespoke hardware.
Experience in language design.
Hardware driver design/development experience.
Experience in writing quantum algorithms or using popular quantum languages.
Location and Travel
This role is based in the UK. OQC's office is located in Shinfield, Reading. There will be a requirement for occasional travel throughout the UK and elsewhere abroad for conferences, meetings and engineering visits.
