JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title:Lead Design Systems EngineerInside IR35. Location:Edinburgh Department/Practice:IT Job Purpose and primary objectives: Looking for a talented and creative Lead Design Systems Engineer to join our team who will work collaboratively to establish, evolve, maintain and document our Design System. The role will require effective partnership with UI/UX Designers, other Design Engineers, Product Management and User Research. Key responsibilities (please specify if the position is an individual one or part of a team): ? Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to maintain UI/UX consistency in projects and lead the technical implementation of design systems ? Help build the core elements to establish and maintain our Design System (taking UX, visual, interaction and motion elements as well as documented behaviours and usage guidelines to turn them into HTML/CSS/Javascript) ? Cultivate internal knowledge around the Design System by being a subject matter expert ? Collaborate with Javascript Programmers to QA the patterns they build are in alignment with the Design System and their outputs meet Standards and Accessibility requirements as well as being semantic ? Create and maintain the Design System website as well as the code base it documents Key Skills/Knowledge: ? Ability to think in terms of systems, connecting and making relationships across multiple teams and experiences ? Mastery of HTML/CSS and their affordances and limitations ? Basic knowledge of interactive JavaScript and DOM manipulation (jQuery) ? Experienced with using pre-processors such as SASS/LESS and architecting accordingly ? Knowledge of Atomic design principles and the use of appropriate naming conventions (e.g. BEM) ? Experienced, detail-orientated engineer with strong knowledge of interaction and visual design as well as familiarity with information architecture ? Expert knowledge of creating accessibly compliant interfaces (WCAG) which are driven by semantic detail ? Experience working in the full lifecycle of Lean/Agile delivery model ? Passion for designing digital products and experiences ? Self disciplined, self motivating and self improving ? Effectively communicate and present complex conceptual thinking visually and verbally Experience required: ? 8+ years relevant experience in Design Engineering for digital products ? 4+ years relevant experience designing products using a Design System ? Degree level qualification in a relevant subject. Duration of the Assignment:6 months
