To technically lead a nuclear safety case team in the delivery of safety documentation and provision of specialist professional safety knowledge and expertise relating to specific products, plant and processes, to recognised national and client standards, minimising business risk and meeting the requirements of all relevant contracts, statutory legislation, external regulatory bodies and classification societies.

Main tasks and responsibilities

To direct the development of safety strategy within a large project team and provide technical advice to the team and associated design offload suppliers.

Agreeing technical requirements and specifications, and technical oversight of the production of a Pre-Construction Safety Report (PCSR) and supporting documents.

Act as the lead for a PCSR head document.

To ensure that Hazard Identification and Safety Assessment safety case documentation adequately reflects the existing and/or proposed design and operation of the relevant facility and/or activity.

To ensure that safety case output has fully integrated all necessary supporting information (e.g. safety assessment, Radiation/Environmental Protection, Human Factors and Engineering/Design substantiation information).

To manage all assigned safety related activities and outputs through;

The technical related input to the planning process.

Ensuring that safety related activities are integrated within the project plan/programme.

Technical stakeholder management and liaison.

Ensuring the quality of the output of the team.

To be able to lead the construction, delivery and quality checking of appropriate Hazard Identification and Safety Assessment documentation against an agreed Safety Strategy utilising the Safety Engineering techniques and in accordance with agreed standards as determined by relevant legislation associated compliance documents and company guidance.

To lead and provide specialist input into the development of nuclear safety documentation to ensure compliance with statutory and contractual requirements relevant to nuclear related activities.

To provide direction, guidance and advice in specialist safety areas to support the Client on Safety Case, Site Licence and MoD Authorisation issues.

Desirable experience

* Development of Claims Arguments Evidence structures

* Knowledge of submarine systems

* Hazard Analysis (HAZAN) development
