Help us build an ecosystem around automated language assessment using Clojure and ClojureScript and Cloud Services to make a real difference to learners of English worldwide. English Language iTutoring (ELiT) was formed in 2015 with the goal of taking computational linguistics research and applying it to English Language Learning. We now operate as part of Cambridge Assessment English and Cambridge University Press, who are world leaders in English language assessment and educational publishing. We currently have eight engineers in our Bristol office and are looking for Full Stack Software Engineers to join our growing software team.  We build ground-breaking English Language Learning applications and APIs based on automated language assessment technology. We work at the interface of EdTech software engineering and world-leading Natural Language Processing research from Cambridge University. Our Write & Improve and Speak & Improve applications are used by hundreds of thousands of learners and teachers worldwide. Our automarker technology delivers exam results to candidates at scale. Our internal annotation tools are used to enrich learner data and improve the performance of the algorithms that power our APIs. Your role As a core member of our software development team, you will: Help develop ELiT's system of services, single-page applications, data warehouse and analytics pipeline. Write high-quality code that is well designed, peer reviewed, and thoroughly tested and documented. Provision AWS infrastructure, deploying services and monitoring them in production using CI/CD in a DevOps environment. Work in a collaborative and inclusive agile environment and help to improve our processes. Collaborate with leading researchers at Cambridge university to harness the power of their NLP and Machine Learning research and provide data and tools to support future research. We have a mature and progressive approach to software engineering and working with technology in general. We embrace principles and processes that help us deliver quality software, including automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, automated deployment and support. Our ways of working are always evolving; if something's not working, we change it. Who we're looking for We're looking for experienced, enthusiastic Software Engineers. While experience working with some of our technologies would be ideal, your potential, enthusiasm and your willingness to learn is more important.  What we're looking for Commercial experience of Software Engineering An interest in programming in Clojure  Nice to have Commercial Clojure or ClojureScript experience, possibly using shadow-cljs, reagent and re-frame. Frontend experience in JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Experience provisioning and managing infrastructure on AWS, possibly using Terraform. Experience of Mysql and/or Postgres Databases.
