A unique opportunity to join our world leading Scientific Operations team has arisen. The Head of Technical Development will have primary responsibility for leading and directing development activities relating to High Throughput Sequencing Technologies.  About the role: As Head of Technical Development you will understand what challenges are being faced and will lead the development of solutions that address them, using evidence led approaches to identify opportunities and justify resources. You will lead a dedicated team of technical and scientific experts with a remit to scale and operationalise our high throughout sequencing solutions tasked and will be tasked with delivering the portfolio by working across organisational boundaries, to build and harmonise professional relationships across the organisation for the benefit of our scientific delivery. You will develop close working relationships with the Head of Research, faculty groups and ICT colleagues to work collaboratively to develop and continually improve our sequencing product portfolio. Our science is large-scale and organised into Programmes, led by our Faculty who conceive and deliver our science, and supported by our Scientific Operations and IT teams responsible for all data production pipelines, compute and storage facilities at the Institute. Essential Skills: Postgraduate degree in molecular biology or similar subject or equivalent experience Proven demonstrable experience of working in a technical development environment  Proven track record of managing & delivering multiple development projects in parallel in a complex cross functional environment  Detailed knowledge of applied research methods (e.g. statistical analysis, experimental design, good research practice).  Excellent communication skills  Experience of managing a diverse range of people  A flexible and service-oriented attitude  Proven ability to deliver good quality solutions within fixed timelines  Experience of managing teams, projects and people  Appropriate domain knowledge for example: genetics and genomics; standard molecular biology techniques; nucleic acid sequencing methodologies  Ability to understand and apply new concepts quickly  Experience of dealing with rapidly changing priorities.  Highly developed problem-solving skills  Ideal Skills: Experience of large-scale production pipelines.  Other information: Covid-19 Recruitment Note: People remain at the centre of everything that we do, and that includes our response to COVID-19.
