Project Support Officer

HMS Victory is the sole surviving ship of the line from the age of sail, and served as Admiral Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, she is a unique artefact of international importance. HMS Victory is both a museum ship and the Flagship of the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy. The world's oldest warship in commission, she is undergoing an extensive conservation programme that will take around 10-12 years, and this is being managed and delivered by the Historic Ships team within the National Museum of the Royal Navy.  A role within the team has arisen for a Project Support Officer to work with the HMS Victory Conservation Programme Project Manager and Project Director on the delivery of the programme.

Key Opportunities

You will play a key role in ensuring HMS Victory is conserved for this and future generations. This is an exciting opportunity to play a role in delivering a major programme of conservation works to HMS Victory: capital works are estimated at £35 million over the next twelve years. Working with the Project Manager, you will help shape, develop and deliver the programme of conservation works.

You will have had some previous experience in a project management environment, and this will be an opportunity to broaden and develop your experience to progress your career, and bring those experiences and skills into developing and delivering the programme.

Knowledge/Experience

A background in heritage management and/or maritime history and heritage would be advantageous, and the role will suit someone keen to develop and extend their skills and knowledge in a lean multi-disciplinary project team environment.

You will be innovative, highly self-motivated, and keen to seek out and take on new roles and challenges as the project develops. You will also have a good attention to detail and sound administration skills to support maintaining project plans, records and schedules, including budgeting and forecasting.
