Senior Software Engineer

Would you like to write software for the UK's latest frontline fighter, augmented/virtual reality trainers for nuclear submarines or 3D mission planning systems for military aircraft? Are you interested in using machine learning on big data to maximise availability for aircraft, ships and land vehicles or developing web-based solutions to keep airspace safe?

We currently have opportunities for experienced Senior Software Engineers to join our Defence Information business, based out of our site in Yeovil, Somerset. Our base is west of town, just off the A3088, where we provide a workplace that supports our culture, with facilities that enable our people to deliver great work in a relaxed and creative environment. The town is well connected with train lines running to London and Bristol, and enjoys excellent local public transport services.

As a Senior Software Engineer you will be involved in a range of technical projects and tasks across the Software Development Lifecycle including Requirements analysis, software design, software implementation and software testing. You will be working closely with your team and BAE Customers on a day to day basis reporting into the Sprint Lead and Engineering Managers.

This role will give you the opportunity to work with a highly professional technical team taking software through the full lifecycle to delivery.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software Engineer will involve:

Ownership of requirements, design and implementation, and test to a high standard, within schedule and estimates

Software development of solutions

Testing of completed functionality

Adherence to project processes and software development practices

Reporting on progress and providing feedback to team members and leadership

Supporting System Test and Integration Activities

Production of appropriate technical documentation

Design of technical solutions

Estimation of development activities

Potential to lead teams of up to 10 Software Engineers

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Software Engineer:

Software development lifecycle and processes (e.g. design, coding, unit testing), and tools (e.g. UML design tools, code IDEs)

Experience and understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from requirements & design through to delivery

A technical track record in skill area's which may include;

Desktop-based applications (Java and Eclipse RCP or C#/C++)

Web-oriented applications and services (Java/C#, JSP, HTML, CSS, Apache middleware)

Business intelligence/analytics tools and techniques (ETL, SQL, Python)

Windows or Linux target environment

Object-oriented design/development including UML
