Network Engineer

Would you like to assist in the delivery of a brand-new platform into the MoD, whilst working on the latest and future technologies? If so we currently have a vacancy for a Network Engineer at our site in Christchurch.

As a Network Engineer, you will be joining the team developing a new system consisting of several individual deliveries at Christchurch with our MoD customer. You will be supporting the full project life cycle producing technical artefacts and the implementing the core physical and virtual networking components which will form the backbone of these new platforms.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with some of the latest technologies whilst assisting in the development of new systems. It could also provide you with the opportunity to get involved in other projects across the BAE Systems Business. This role will also offer the opportunity to work along-side a multiskilled Engineering team providing you the opportunity to enhance your skillset and gain additional training.

Your main responsibilities as a Network Engineer will involve:

Building and configuring technical solutions of networked hardware and software

Integration of COTS hardware and software

Adherence to systems engineering practices

Fault finding and resolution of issues in a production environment to a successful conclusion

Producing clear and concise technical documentation

Collaboration with other members of the team; sharing knowledge and peer reviewing others work

Reporting on progress and providing feedback and leadership to team members

Occasional visits to customer sites to support deployment

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience of Virtual Private Networking including IP Security and the provisioning of Public Key Infrastructure Certification Authorities

Experience of Software Defined Network concepts, configuration and deployment

Installation and configuration of Layer 2 switched networks and Layer 3 routed networks.

Functional domain knowledge of routing protocols e.g. MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP, and RIP

Configuration and support of VRF, L2TP, GRE, and VSS technologies

Experience of network management protocols e.g. SNMP, SSH, SysLog, ICMP

Technical documentation production

 

Desirable:

Experience with Atlassian toolset

Working in an Agile development environment

CCNA Qualification

You will be an excellent communicator both written and verbally. You will also be a good team player able to work with a range of engineers and other stakeholders to achieve project success. You will be able to work alone or as part of the wider networking team working on projects from the design stage through to the support of the operational systems.

 

Location: Christchurch, UK

Salary: £34,000 + dependent on skills and experiences
