There are few institutions where you can make a real difference to the 2 million people who work in the UK Financial Services industry, the 40 million consumers of financial products and the stability of our economy as a whole.

From regulating consumer credit to driving action on foreign exchange manipulation or helping strengthen accountability in the banking sector, the FCA is working with the industry to protect consumers, ensure the integrity of the UK financial system and promote fair and effective competition. Their remit has expanded significantly since their creation in 2013, with the number of firms they regulate growing from 23,000 to over 60,000.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to join an internationally respected financial services regulator at a critically important time in the organisation's development, and that of the financial services sector, and to influence its transformation into a regulator fit for the future.

The landscape of financial services regulation is constantly changing; impacting the way in which the FCA regulates. The new Director of Technology will lead Business and Technology Solutions (BTS); the department that supports the FCA in managing the impact of such changes through the implementation and management of cutting edge, industry leading technology and digital solutions, used by tens of thousands of firms and millions of consumers across the financial services sector.

Their ambitious technological change programme is designed to help it regulate over 60,000 financial services firms under its remit. The new Director of Technology will drive the delivery of this change programme, helping ensure its benefits are fully realised.

The Individual

The new Director of Technology will lead the provision of effective and efficient information technology to the FCA and regulated firms.  They will continue the modernisation agenda, ensure a high quality of service, progress the development of new technology platforms, and refresh the strategy and operating model for IT to reflect the FCA's changing priorities.  They will bring a track record of delivering digital transformation as a head of technology; ideally leveraging data, analytics and insights to drive enterprise-wide efficiency and improvement.

Their skills should include:

Strong leadership behaviours in line with the FCA values and capabilities, embedding the Mission and able to deliver organisational priorities.

Excellent communication, negotiating and influencing skills - able to gain buy-in, and not afraid to provide constructive challenge to varied senior stakeholders.

Delivery excellence - ability to prioritise and successfully deliver major technology and business change programmes in budget.

Technology innovation - broad and up-to-date knowledge with experience applying leading-edge tools, approaches and technologies to massive data-sets to identify new insights and trends.

Flexible, creative approach to business, an understanding of risk assessment and the ability to modify their approach to the circumstances.
