The Role: Reporting to the Director of Engineering this is a highly varied role which requires a highly experienced and adaptable individual capable of taking on and excelling in many areas of the business from leading technical discussions and setting strategy to the soft skills needed to mentor and manage staff, cope with every type of customer and lead meetings and workshops. No two days will be the same, so being out of your comfort zone needs to be in your comfort zone. You will be responsible for leading our architecture team. This encompasses: + Responsibility for career development, training, and enablement for both direct reports and the wider architecture team
+ Responsible for managing several Lead Architects
+ Setting overall architectural strategy
+ Leading architecture design and customer workshops
+ Leading technical conversations at an enterprise level
+ Evaluating and assessing new platforms and technologies for suitability
+ Documenting standards and approaches You will also assist the business with the following activities: + Dealing with customers with diplomacy and care
+ Representing our team and methodology in customer meetings
+ Responding to RFPs
+ Creating technical proposals for customers
+ Leading customer workshops, both pre and post sales
+ Estimating and validating estimations for our proposals
+ Authoring articles and marketing content
+ Presenting at internal and external meetings, events and conferences
+ Travelling as needed to support the sales process, including short notice international travel
+ Representing the Commerce technology discipline within the wider Wunderman Thompson technology teams, helping support further integration About You... To succeed in this role you'll excel at: Technical Leadership: + Solid delivery experience across multiple large scale eCommerce (or similar) programmes of work.
+ You will understand integration patterns and how to design not only individual systems, but how to connect and make those systems work together
+ Prior experience managing Architect Leads (or similar)
+ You will have a good working knowledge of at least one more of these languages: Java, JavaScript, PHP
+ You should be able to help our customers create a roadmap which is not just technically valid, but understands their business and delivers demonstrable value
+ You'll have a well thought through opinion on all the latest technologies and how our customers can use them. If you don't know about it you will be able to learn fast!
+ You will be able to defend your stance to peers on the customer's team and to other development partners who may be involved in projects
+ You must be willing to change your views when challenged and take on board new perspectives
+ You will be able to present confidently at customer meetings, events and conferences
+ You should be abreast of the latest trends in the industry, including containers and serverless architectures
+ You will understand what a true DevOps focused approach is
+ You will be a strong advocate for maximizing automation in CI/CD, testing, quality processes and infrastructure Delivery Experience: + You will be expected to have practical, hands on experience of developing and delivering several large scale, relevant projects.
+ Your experience will allow you to talk authoritatively about previous projects and ways in which common problems were solved
+ You will know at least one of these languages to a very high level and have several years of commercial development experience in it (Java, JavaScript, PHP)
+ You will have extensive experience working as a lead developer or architect in delivery projects based on these languages
+ You will have a good understanding of infrastructure operations both in a traditional hosting model and a cloud hosting model If you know some of this even better! + Experience of innovation and delivery of new engineering practices
+ Experience of interviewing and recruiting new team members
+ Knowledge of HR processes and performance management
