Job Description

Due to some exciting developments in our Data & Analytics Strategy we have created a new role of Lead BI Developer / Lead Data Engineer.  This position will be responsible for overseeing the specification, building and maintenance of our migration onto a brand new cloud-based data engineering platform. This includes the integration and management of the various data sources that feed into and from our D&A systems.

As a subject matter expert, a key responsibility of this role is to coach, mentor and direct a team of Data Engineers and a Data Architect.  To allow maximum focus on the core elements of this role it will be supported by a Professional Development Leader who is responsible for the day to day support of the team.  Whilst the role will have a degree of ‘hands on' architecture and engineering, the primary purpose of the role is to ensure activity and outcomes of the Engineering team and Architect are aligned to the overall objectives of the department.

Ideal Candidate

As a senior member of the Data & Information Team the successful candidate will represent the Department across the Society, engaging with colleagues at all levels.  On this basis, excellent people and communication skills are a pre-requisite and will include the translation between technical and not-technical teams.

Although this role has no direct line management responsibilities, our matrix management operating model requires an individual with a proven track record of making strategic business decisions and considering relevant risks. It will also have a proven ability of delivering results by leading teams using coaching and mentoring techniques to create a high performing team.

Due to the ongoing situation presented by Covid-19 we are operating this role remotely at the moment, so the successful candidate will be on-boarded from home. We expect this to be the case until the end of the year and then in 2021 we will look to offer flexible working to support the successful colleague.
