Who are Lloyds Banking Group?

As the UK's largest retail and commercial bank, we have a footprint that touches nearly every community and household in the UK. That gives us a big responsibility to support the UK economy, and we have a clear strategy to put customers first and achieve our vision of being the best bank for our customers.

We're committed to employing a diverse and inclusive workforce, reflective of the customers and communities we serve - where all our colleagues can be themselves and succeed on merit.

Who are the Chief Data Office?

CDO brings together Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Intelligence (BI) and Agile Delivery to build data solutions in areas such as customer segmentation, pricing, customer experience, credit decisioning, commercial performance and fraud detection. They are also driving a more sophisticated approach to how they produce and distribute BI to enable more data-led decisions and help LBG achieve its ambition to be a truly data driven bank.

And in joining their Data Engineering team you could have a very bright future at the cutting edge of data-led innovation. With skills spanning across data mining/analysis/modelling and a mix of modern and traditional data platforms (e.g. Hadoop, Kafka, GCP, Azure, Teradata, SQL server) you'll get to work on a vast range of high-profile projects providing you with horizon-expanding exposure to a host of wider technologies and careers in data. Together we'll make it possible...

So what exactly would you be responsible for?

You'll be part of a cross-functional team, working alongside the business, product owners, data scientists, machine learning engineers and Business Intelligence specialists to solve some of the Bank's toughest business problems.

You will provide critical 'data expertise' to help shape the approach to solving the problem and contributing new/interesting datasets into the mix.

You'll develop high quality, reusable data pipelines at scale, ingesting structured and unstructured data into our data lake, and feature engineering for machine learning or curating data for consumption through analytics and BI.

You'll be working in a variety of server and cloud environments, using state of the art toolsets, as well as evaluating exciting new technologies to expand our capabilities

About you as a Person: You're the sort of confident data professional we're looking for - passionate about both data/analytics with an aptitude for solving problems through data and translating data into analytics based opportunities; Role-modelling Data Engineering as it should be in the digital age.

You'll have a proven mix of excellent communication skills: influencing and working effectively with technical and non-technical audiences - asking intelligent questions and able to make complex data analysis simple

And you'll have the imagination we actively encourage to innovate and help create a truly market-leading data and analytics function.

Your background from a Technical Perspective:

We like people who come from diverse backgrounds in the field of data as it makes us stronger as a team to have people looking at problems from different perspectives. As a minimum we do need to see experience of the following for serious consideration:

Advanced coding/scripting experience (e.g. Python, SQL etc) developed in a commercial/industry setting is essential.

Comfortable working with relational and non-relational databases to build data solutions.

Computer science fundamentals: a clear understanding of data structures & modelling, algorithms, software design, design patterns and core programming concepts.

These roles are exciting because they are an interesting hybrid of machine learning orientated and "old school" database development, so if you have exposure to any of these additional things that would be advantageous, but please apply if you don't! Data analysis using Python (e.g. pandas, numpy, matplotlib, scipy) or exposure to Teradata, Hadoop, Spark or Google Cloud Platform.

These roles would be great if you......

"Enjoy discovering the value in data", quote from Senior Manager in our Group Analytics department.

Enjoy coming up with creative solutions to data problems.

Want to be part of the production of our Business Intelligence marketplace, "think the Amazon of big data", quote from our Chief Data Officer

What would you get in return? We'll give you stretch as well as an energising and informal environment. And you'll realise genuine career progression opportunities gained within a nurturing culture that celebrates both diversity and equal opportunity. Together we make it possible....
