Core Java Developer Over the past ninteen years, our development team has built the leading corporate bond e-trading platform. This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic software engineer to join the MarketAxess development team as a senior level developer working on our core trading system. S/he will be responsible for a spectrum of assignments from working on new products, system and product enhancements, and systems architecture to bug fixes. We are seeking skilled technologists who have strong technical skills as well as the leadership characteristics required to guide others from a technical perspective. This position will require that the candidate work together not only with other technologists but, over time, also with business colleagues in the development of the system. We deliver four to six major releases a year which require occasional long hours and/or weekend hours; however, our employees often work from home when working these extended hours.Role and Responsibilities:Develop new functionality for and maintain the company's fixed income e-trading platform for institutional credit product tradingInitiatives include development within the order entry/management system, product enhancements and new workflows for trading, and server-side programming and messagingPerform above duties utilizing Oracle, Java, Swing, Ant, server-side and client-to-server technology, multi-threading, GUI screensImprove the scale and performance of the growing systemProduction support, including investigating and fixing production issuesCoordinate with business analysts and quality assurance on a daily basisPresent technical designs of work performed to the various groups (including Development, QA, BA and the business) Required Technical Skills:5-7 years of enterprise software development experienceExcellent core Java skillsEnterprise RDBMS (Oracle and/or SQL Server)Experience with high-speed, high-volume transactional systems Good understanding of object-oriented design patternsExtensive experience in multi-threaded programmingExperience working with FIX messagingExperience working in Agile EnvironmentGood to Have - Web development using HTML5, JavaScript Preferred Technical Skills:JMSJDBC Other: We continuously deliver new trading functionality to the global markets. At the same time, we are starting on a strategic path to build the next generation of our trading platform. For example, if you have experience with the Agile development process and Micro Services, you could provide value input to the team. Other requirements:BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subjectStrong verbal and written communication skillsOrganizational and problem resolution skillsThe profile of a team-player who forms strong relationships with colleagues and has good interpersonal skills Ability to deal with changing prioritiesComfortable being in a satellite office and helping incubate a new initiative
