Job DescriptionThis is a new opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer to join a team of dedicated IT professionals to deliver new and exciting IT systems into the Defence environment.The candidate shall have in-depth experience of installing and configuring Cisco Routers and Switches, and ideally have experience of Firewall products and network virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMWare NSX)Working under a Senior Engineer or Architect, the candidate will lead smaller tasks and take responsibility for the task's technical output. The applicant will work with the technical management team to identify resources required for the task and provide regular progress updates.The applicant will be at ease working within a small to medium sized team and be comfortable taking on new tasks outside of their skill set as required by the business.The applicant will be expected to uphold quality and deliver solutions to budget and time constraints. Solutions must be delivered fully documented so a high standard of written work is expected.The team support projects across a range of sites, so mobility is a key requirement of the role. Although based in Portsmouth, the candidate will be expected to work at other sites as required - with travel & subsistence provided.

Position Requirements: Proactively work with solution architects and aid in the production of (and/or contributions to) proposals for work (preparation/justification of work programmes/plans/resource estimates)Lead tasks to ensure delivered solution follow the defined design process and governance procedures and processes through design reviewsKeep abreast of industry trends and advancements in information technologyBuild and enhance relationships with peers and infrastructure servicesBe responsible for undertaking project work across the team as required - participation in reference groups, training and research on new functionality etc.Working towards becoming recognised as a Network expert within the businessWillingness to travel within the UK and potentially overseas

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:Practical experience in network design, implementation, configuration and testing (ideally CCNA Qualified) - practical experience of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), compression and acceleration techniquesSpecific skills in network security design, implementation, configuration and testing: Firewalls, Guards, Intrusion Detection, IPSecVPN, Computer / router IA lockdown, IP encryption, VOIPKnowledge of JSP 604 and 440 and associated JSPs would be desirable.To apply please send your CV's in the first instance.
