Responsibilities include:

* Direct 1st level fault resolution on Switching Elements to sectors, sites and the Service Area routing cells

* Assist the lead engineers in providing Level 2 and 3 support for the managed transmission infrastructure services, particularly network management, system maintenance and engineering support components and associated networks and their interfaces, applications and protocols.

* Provide on-line network management to cover fault, performance, accounting, configuration and security management of services provisioned via transmission components mainly in legacy TOM, and secondary IP/MPLS.

* Advises on fault diagnosis across multiple sites utilizing a number of management platforms (e.g.HP Network Automation, Netscout, lntermapper ,Splunk)

* Ensure that, on Switching elements, remote routine maintenance throughout sites is performed

* Coordinate with sites to implement networking elements centralization, standardization and best practices

* Liaise and collaborate internally throughout the Service line infrastructures and to external organizations for fault rectification activities

* Responsible to assist in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures within Transmission and Infrastructure Services

* Configuration, and evaluation, of test scenarios pertinent to the area of Switching and network configuration problem resolution

* Operate and develop provided management tools and capabilities

* Ensure a common understanding of the available toolsets and method of utilization within the centralized and distributed user base

* Provide engineering assistance in preparation of Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), operational advice notices, system / equipment configuration, interface standards and procedures as requested and upon each and every change in within managed services and systems.

* Develop change configuration proposal packages as directed

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

The consultant assigned to this post will hold a university degree in ICT System Engineering and supplemented by substantial qualifications within the C4ISR Domain.

* University degree in ICT System Engineering

* Over 4 years' experience of CISCO Routing and Switching Elements or similar manufacturers.

* A minimum of 4 years' experience with the configuration and operation of HP Network Automation or equivalent network automation and orchestration systems

* A minimum of 4 years' experience with the configuration and operation of Network Monitoring and Event Management systems ideally lntermapper, Spectrum, HP Openview and Splunk

* Over 4 years' experience of working in a centrally managed network environment

* Proven experience in the use of an Incident Management System such as BMC Remedy

* A high level of knowledge of network, system and application level troubleshooting techniques

* Knowledge of communications protocols and practical experience of using diagnostic test equipment

* General knowledge of modern communications systems such as IP/MPLS, DWDM technology.

* Extensive knowledge of implementing and operating LAN technologies (e.g. HSRP, STP, Switching, VLANs , DHCP snooping, ARP Inspection, Port-Security)

* Working knowledge of operating network authentication and authorization systems and technologies (e.g. Secure ACS 5.x, ISE,802.1x, 802.1ae MACSEC, RADIUS,TACACS+)

* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

* Experience in implementing/commissioning network equipment and participate in projects delivering network capabilities
