A Server Support Technician is required for our client based in Prestwich, Manchester. For an initial 5-month contract (potential extensions). Our client is looking for a Server Support Technician to support their uplift project of 2008 Servers as Windows Server 2008 goes out of support next January. Main duties and responsibilitiesIdentify, plan and perform, with Supplier support an upgrade of each Windows Server 2008 to the most appropriate level agreed for the application(s) running on it.Work with technical solutions and Support Teams in delivering the upgrades with minimal impact to business servicesForms an excellent working relationship with all other aspects of Service Management.Communicates and consults with application owners to agree application changes, enhancements and disposals. Maintains and updates the knowledge database management system, service catalogue and application reference model.Work with Asset and Configuration manager to ensure detailed information is provided to keep information current..Provides management reports on application performance.Makes recommendations regarding patches, upgrades and enhancements, and implements when approved.Where appropriate consults the knowledge management database, undertakes research and liaises / co-ordinates the suppliers to assist towards resolving issues.Makes decisions at the appropriate time, taking into account the needs of the situation, priorities, constraints and the availability of necessary information. EssentialExperience of upgrading Windows 2008 Servers Operating SystemsExperience of managing IT issues and problemsWorks effectively within a team and also own initiative.Works effectively with 3rd party suppliers. Able to communicate clearly and contribute to good quality decisions at times of stress.Plans, monitors and reports against multiple targets and take actions to resolve unexpected problems. SQL environment experience is beneficial
