If you've got an appetite for a breadth of fascinating and challenging work, you can build an exceptional IT audit career with us. You'll help to improve public services, too.

About us

HMRC is responsible for working out and collecting the taxes and duties that pay for public services including hospitals, schools, police, transport, defence and security, as well as for Child and other Benefits. We help to keep the UK running.

HMRC is committed to becoming a ‘data driven organisation' and undergoing the biggest digital transformation in government with some of the biggest and most exciting digital projects in Europe

Internal Audit is at the very heart of HMRC and works with every area of the department. Looking at assurance on governance, risk management and controls, we help to ensure that HMRC plans and manages its performance, makes good decisions and is held to account on accurate financial and performance data. As well as undertaking compliance and risk-based and compliance type IT audit work, we're actively brought in early to help the business design assurance into new IT products and processes. Most importantly, we enable HMRC to account for everything they do.

About the role

We're looking for experienced IT auditors with a wide range of audit skills to support the delivery of assurance to the CEO and Accounting Officer.

Providing professional consultancy and ad hoc advice on risk, governance and control, you'll be a 'critical friend' within key HMRC and cross-Government strategic programmes.

You'll manage all aspects of IT audit assignments, identifying and assessing complex IT risks and controls. And, ensuring that all IT audit work meets quality standards, you'll consult with high level audit customers to ensure their needs and expectations are met. You'll also contribute to the development of IT internal audit plans and processes, and act as line manager to trainee IT auditors.

About you

As an experienced auditor with an IT audit qualification (eg CISA or equivalent) and completed log book, you should be genuinely interested in developing your career with us. To do this, ideally you'll have recent experience of undertaking IT audits, or of working in an IT operational assurance environment, along with extracting and analysing data from a variety of systems.

You should be able to bring practicality, pragmatism and customer focus to the technical elements of the review process. In addition, we'll need you to be an effective influencer and communicator, able to move easily between team player and team leader as the situation requires.

A strong analytical thinker, problem solver and decision maker, you're confident in challenging the status quo and making recommendations to senior leaders. And, demonstrating resilience and tact in the face of challenging circumstances, you should be able to manage multiple projects within tight timelines.

As well as competitive salaries we offer a substantial benefits package, including:

New entrants are expected to join on the minimum of the pay range however, there may be an opportunity for this to be higher dependent on skills and experience.

This post currently also attracts a non-pensionable Labour Market Supplement of £4,500 per annum, subject to being CISA certified or equivalent (CRISC, CISM and CGEIT), which is in addition to base salary.

Generous annual leave and time off arrangements

Paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave.

Help with caring responsibilities.

Employee Assistance and Community Volunteering Programmes.

Free regular eye testing.

We recruit on merit after fair and open selection, and we welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.
