11th August 2020 Are you a leader who can bring together energy research, development, and commercialisation to change what`s possible? The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Design Leader (Plant lifecycle) to join our innovative STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) Programme, to design and deliver a prototype fusion reactor by 2040. STEP is an ambitious programme designed to accelerate the delivery of sustainable Fusion Energy, ultimately paving the way for a commercial fleet of fusion reactors, to deliver net electricity to the grid. To succeed in this role, you will be required to: - Provide effective direction to drive the engineering design for the plant control systems, automation, maintenance, and associated processes - Demonstrate positive role model behaviours, helping to further embed a Being Inclusive workplace culture across the STEP Community and beyond - Partner with technical experts and specialists (both internally and externally) to develop integrated solutions to the design complications - Collaborate with the wider STEP Team, other UKAEA Programmes, Industry and Universities to achieve greater synergies and to leverage expertise - Challenge conventional approaches to problem-solving, trying out new ways of working, using your creativity, passion and innovative thinking At UKAEA, we strive to make everyone feel welcome and fully supported. - A strong proven track record of delivering complex, high technology projects to quality, time and budget
- A deep knowledge of active plant layout, human factors, RAMI, remote maintenance, and waste management
- An advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline
- A solid understanding of modern standards in Safety, Health and Environment, and Quality Assurance
- A broad understanding of design, qualify, manufacture, test, inspect, operate, maintain, disposal and related engineering processes and practices Desirable
- Membership (or Fellowship) of a relevant Professional Institute
- Experience of Tokamak design activities
- Experience of performing advanced analysis in a related discipline
- Proven product development of low maturity technologies Special requirements:

The level 6 role attracts a salary range of £51,565 - £55,446, Level 6* attracts a salary of £57,964 - £62,327 and the Level 7 attracts a salary of £68,760 - £73,935.
