The Office for Students (OfS) was established by the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 and is the independent regulator for higher education in England. We have responsibility for ensuring that higher education is delivering positive outcomes for past, present and future students and that all students, whatever their background, have a fulfilling experience of higher education that enriches their lives and careers. This is an exciting time to join a new and growing organisation and to work on a high profile area of public policy. To work with us, you don`t need to be an expert in higher education, but you will need a passion for making a difference for all students. The Competition and Registration (CAR) directorate has strategic and operational responsibility for developing and implementing the OfS`s regulatory framework. We design and deliver high quality services for higher education providers on the basis set out in the Higher Education and Research Act 2017, the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 and the OfS`s regulatory framework. The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of core processes, workstreams and projects across a diverse portfolio by ensuring that the work of the directorate is planned, resourced and managed effectively. Key responsibilities include: developing and maintaining the operational plan for the directorate`s work, effectively monitoring the plan and identifying and removing blockages to delivery, providing accurate, timely and insightful reports on progress of the directorate`s work to the central Portfolio Management Office, maintaining an overview of resourcing requirements across the directorate, and providing operational and project support to the Strategic Business Manager and senior directorate staff. We are looking for candidates to bring with them expertise in programme management and experience of delivering complex projects successfully. You will demonstrate a confident and co-operative style and be able to deal effectively with people at all levels to build positive working relationships across the organisation. You will be a natural communicator, both orally and in writing, and be comfortable working collaboratively and flexibly to deliver the OfS`s business plan. In this role you will develop a sophisticated understanding of the context in which we regulate, and will embed project management techniques and cross-organisational networks to ensure that information and knowledge are shared. It`s important to us that our growing team is diverse so we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and identities. As well as an exciting opportunity to be part of a new regulator, we provide our staff with a comprehensive staff development programme, 25 days` annual leave, and the opportunity to join the Civil Service Pension scheme. During the current COVID-19 situation, to reflect government advice, interviews may be held via video link. If you are shortlisted, we will work with you to ensure you are given the opportunity to attend interview in the most appropriate way. To apply, please click the 'Apply Now' button. Closing date: 6th July 2020
Interviewing date: 22nd July 2020
