Edinburgh Are you a collaborative and highly organised individual with a rigorous approach to problem solving and a proven track record of programming in Python?  If so, Nesta is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data Analytics Directorate and provide a vital infrastructural boost to Nesta's data science research programme, which delivers data-driven insights into innovation and research systems, with a particular emphasis on the labour market. Nesta's Data Analytics Directorate is at the forefront of using Big Data for social good.  We bring together world class capabilities in User Research, Data Engineering, Data Science and Data Visualisation to produce open source code, research and tools that help individuals, charities, businesses and governments to make more informed choices for the benefit of society. About this exciting opportunity Working alongside a growing team of data engineers, as well as the wider team of data scientists and front-end developers in the Data Analytics Directorate, our Data Engineer will be expected to develop our data products in two broad senses: developing novel strategies for data collection and processing and ongoing support and maintenance of the Data Analytics and Production System (DAPS).  This will involve: Sophisticated web-scraping methods and scalable machine learning methods Database development Big data technologies Software reviews and management of the DAPS codebase Implementing patches and hotfixes to unstable data pipelines Supporting the management of cloud services What we are looking for Holding a BSc or MSc qualification in a relevant quantitative discipline and/ors relevant experience, you will also have significant experience programming in Python and developing in a UNIX environment. An excellent communicator with strong prioritisation and organisational skills, you will also have a demonstrable background in data pipeline technologies; CI/CD and database technologies; text processing pipelines, or machine learning and natural language processing methods; and online data collection. Experience of ETL with standard python tools, cloud development and REST API development is also vital. Closing date: 17 June 2020 at 8am.
