A Solaris Engineer is required for our client based in Blackburn. This is for an initial 3 month contract. Activities will include providing design, build, installation, configuration, management and support of the Solaris estate that drive applications and related ICT services. This includes, but is not limited to: break-fix support; advice on available patches; development, testing and implementation of bug fixes/ workarounds/ patches/ updates; monitoring operation to assure application and information availability and integrity; maintaining and sharing a knowledge-base of known issues and solutions; upgrading, replacing, or otherwise changing the application software. Oracle Solaris: Sole platform for their Oracle databases. All Solaris versions are 11.4. Oracle database: Oracle database is running 11g and 12c at the moment on SPARC hardware in a clustered environment. Oracle Active Data Guard: Oracle Active Data Guard is also in operation as a replication mechanism from live to test servers. This allows the replicated copies of the live databases to be used for reporting by applications so that the load is diverted from the live databases when reports are being run. Oracle Weblogic: Weblogic Server 12c is in use as an application platform, running on Solaris x86 but soon to be migrated to the SPARC cluster platform. Knowledge of the following will be required: Oracle SPARC Enterprise hardwareOracle Solaris 11 (SPARC and x86) administration, maintenance, security and patchingInstallation/build of Solaris servers on bare metal and Solaris zone buildsPresentation of storage from SAN to host via iSCSISolaris zone/container technology, including resource capping and allocationOracle ZFS file system - setup/provisioning, properties, tuning, monitoring and management.Solaris Cluster technology with the ability to perform controlled failovers between nodes and also recover from failures (hardware/software/network/storage) that might result in automated failover.Working knowledge of Oracle database in both clustered and non-clustered configurations in order to be able to support Oracle DBA.Provide Solaris systems admin support for Oracle DBA (e.g. resource allocation, file system capacity monitoring/managing, zone server provisioning, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, backups (full file system and Oracle RMAN to Unitrends backup appliance)Shell scripting (Bash/KSH)Oracle Weblogic installation and administration (e.g. deploying applications and configuring SSL encryption).Good knowledge of Oracle licensing to ensure that CPU core and thread allocations comply with available licenses at all times.
