Our client are a fast growing start-up company revolutionising the medical devices sector via their novel and innovative imaging technology. Working alongside management, and an existing software engineer and working with external R&D vendors assigned to the development programme the Software Engineer will have overall responsibility for specification, design, development and testing of the embedded software that runs on the company's visualisation platform that is currently under development. The Company is developing its first platform technology, a new visualisation platform for laparoscopic surgery. The vision of the Company is to be the market leader in the research, engineering, design, development, and marketing of advanced visualisation devices, which improve the standardisation, safety, and surgical outcomes of minimally invasive surgical procedures.Job Purpose The software engineer will be responsible for the specification, design, development, testing and design management of the embedded software that runs on the company's laparoscopic visualisation platform.Key responsibilities: Working within a team to develop software specifications and test protocols.Delivering high-quality production-ready code, according to specifications.Delivering high-quality design documentation according to medical regulations.Performing tests, code reviews, and other quality assurance tasks.Fast prototyping in support of proof-of-principle activities.Debugging and fixing issues found from field testing and deployments.Contributing to role-specific R&D planning.Working with management on managing and developing intellectual property.Working with corporate partners, as determined by the executive management.Requirements:Ideally hold a degree in a relevant subject such as software engineering or computer science.Knowledge of C++/C# development, under both Windows and Linux.Demonstrable experience of software development within a regulated industry (such as medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or nuclear or defence etc.).Experience of working within ISO 13485 and IEC 62304, and preparing associated documentation (risk management ISO14971, design and development procedures, change control, etc.)Desirable Skills & Abilities Experience of developing real-time computer vision applications.Experience of optimising computer vision algorithms for speed, and porting OpenCV code to GPU and FPGA implementations.A background or experience in system modelling using UML or SysMLExperience with WPF and low-level Windows graphics programming.Experience of developing graphical user interfaces and, ideally, IEC 62366.Knowledge of writing Windows drivers.Familiarity with Python.Willingness to provide constructive input into R&D strategy & planning meetings.Knowledge of clinical and/or biomedical engineering.
