About Us:

Westminster is an incredible city. Home to iconic tourist destinations such as Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square and Regent Street, we witness one million people passing through the city every single day. As such, it is imperative that we make this a true City for All - a place where every member of our community is able to succeed in life. Within the Council, we work innovatively to shape services and policies that are meeting the needs of our diverse communities - join our Strategy and Intelligence team, and you could have an immense impact on how we are bringing these bold ambitions to life.

The Role:

We want to be at the cutting edge of using data and business intelligence (BI) to shape our strategies and policies, plus in services that we are delivering to Westminster's community. We are well-versed in the field, resulting in our recent win at the Public Sector Paperless 2019 Big Data Awards - but we are determined to achieve a lot more, which means this is a role with spectacular reach.

Casting an experienced eye over the entire breadth of the council, you will critically assess a huge array of BI solution opportunities across services and departments, defining and prioritising the BI work needed to shape our long and short-term plans. Developing and implementing the resulting strategy, you will ensure the BI team are implementing your vision, developing their skills and providing them with inspirational leadership. You will also work in partnership with colleagues across the council, seeing to it that BI is being used to drive innovation and effective decision making.

Crucially, you will determine how the BI strategy is fitting within the organisation's wider data vision, coming up with creative approaches to how BI, IT and digital colleagues can best work together to deliver this ambitious vision.

About You:

This is a high-profile opportunity to ensure that every key decision is being underpinned by a dynamic evidence base. You will therefore excel in this team if you have experience of developing business intelligence in a similarly complex organisation, with an in-depth knowledge of the relevant technology, policy, practices, legislation and tools, including Microsoft BI suite (SSIS, SSAS, SharePoint). With proven experience of translating business needs into effective BI and data solutions, you will ideally have a good understanding of cloud computing and a working knowledge of programming language. As a highly engaging leader with good verbal and written communication skills, you will be able to explain complex information to a non-technical audience.

What We Offer:

This is a unique opportunity to join a team who are friendly, diverse, enthusiastic and talented. With a collaborative and creative approach to how results are delivered, the team share goals and long-term aims, making for a uniquely inspirational working environment. You will be encouraged to take up sector-leading training and development opportunities to enhance your skills, and we strongly support career progression.

You will also receive a competitive benefits package including access to the local government pension scheme, with generous annual leave and various exciting staff discounts. So, if you want to join an inclusive and dynamic team who are passionate about delivering results that will benefit our local community, then this is the role for you.

The Council and its partners are committed to achieving diverse shortlists for all vacancies at Band 4 or above to support our desire to increase the number of staff from underrepresented groups in our workforce. If you are from a black, Asian and minority ethnic background (BAME), we invite you to self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our positive action commitments.
