The Data and Performance team have a clear aim to create a culture of using data and insight to drive improvements across the whole organisation. We work closely with managers and senior leaders to ensure that they have the insight they need in order to make evidence-based decisions. ?We are looking for someone who will enjoy visualising and engaging with telling the story using analysis of data, to connect with managers across the Inspectorate. If you want a role where you can extract, analyse and interpret large amounts of data from a range of sources, using algorithmic, data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning and statistical tools, in order to make it accessible to the Inspectorate and our customers then this is a great role for you.?Job Description This is a new role and is key to the development and delivery of innovative projects for key stakeholders in the Planning Inspectorate. You will proactively analyse data from numerous sources in order to gain a better understanding about how the Inspectorate performs and will build AI/Machine Learning tools that will automate processes. You will also work closely with the rest of the Data and Performance team to see how outputs can be delivered more efficiently and that they align to new developments in technology and remain current and future proof. ProfileEssentialYou should have one of the following:? First or 2nd class honours degree (2:2 minimum for Statistical Officer) or equivalent in a subject containing formal statistical training (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, Data Science or similar)A higher degree, e.g. an MSc or PhD, in a subject containing formal statistical training (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Data Science, Psychology, Geography or similar)Have worked in a statistical/data science field and are able to demonstrate continuous professional development (via a CPD Log Book) in statistics/data science at the same level as a foundation degree/HND (Level 5)? A member of the Government Statistical Group (GSG) or be willing to complete a GSS online multiple-choice test and dissemination exercise At least three years of relevant professional experience in Government, industry or academiaExperience of applied data analytics (e.g. Understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naïve Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests) Experience with programming languages such as Java, Python, R, SQLExperience with data visualisation tools, such as R-Shiny, PowerBI, D3Good applied statistical skills, such as distributions, hypothesis testing, regression Excellent pattern recognition and predictive modelling skills Experience of conveying technical subject to non-technical audience.
