IT Support Engineer

Flowminder is currently seeking an IT Support Engineer to join our Data Engineering Team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a range of areas and play a central role in the continuous improvement of information systems across an international organisation. As such, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a diverse and cross-functional team of developers, academics and data scientists. Ultimately, the IT Support Engineer will take ownership of technical projects related to the ongoing development and implementation of Flowminder's IT Service Management and Information Security programmes.

You will use your knowledge of best practice around security and data privacy to inform and develop our solutions for information security. You will support the wider Southampton team (including those outside the Data Engineering Team) with their information communication technology needs.

A resourceful problem solver, you will be comfortable digging into a problem, whether it means looking for guidance online, using your own knowledge or asking colleagues for support. You will have experience of handling sensitive data and maintaining relevant security standards. You will be comfortable communicating technical updates and requests to a wider project team. You will enjoy the variety of tasks at hand, adjusting quickly between varying degrees of autonomy. Of course, you won't do it all alone - instead, you'll find yourself in excellent company, well-supported by your colleagues' diverse skills, experience and knowledge.

You will be working closely with the Infrastructure Architect and will be comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment with each day consisting of many different communication needs, work package tasks and technical contributions.

Responsibilities

- Own the organisation's IT Service Management programme
- Support Information Management across Flowminder, for a variety of data types:
- Organisational data (Finance, Human Resources, G-Suite)
- Client/partner data (Geospatial, Survey, Mobile Network Operator)
- Project data

- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of:
- Flowminder Data Governance, including implementing security standards for the handling of data at rest, in transit, and in use
- Flowminder's Information Security Management System
- Flowminder's Systems Development Life Cycle

- Support the workflow of:
- Analysts over the course of projects

- Some travel is anticipated

Essential Skills
- Bash, Python
- A strong interest in systems security, cybersecurity and vulnerability management
- Infrastructure management including the development of tooling
- System administration (Unix, Windows)
- High level of written and spoken English

Desirable Skills
- Bachelor's degree in systems engineering or a related discipline
- Familiarity with the core ISO27k standards, information risk and security management principles
- Virtualisation (VMware, VirtualBox)
- Familiarity with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
