Software Team Leader

Would you like to lead a team of software engineers, developing, maintaining and supporting our Combat Management System (CMS) product? CMS is fitted to most of the platforms in the Royal Navy surface fleet from Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) to the new Aircraft Carriers (Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales) and forms a vital part of the ships' combat system - providing it with the capability to defend itself and other ships in the task force.

We currently have a vacancy for a Software Team Leader at our site in New Malden.

As a Software Team Leader, you will manage the work packages and ensure the work is delivered within cost, timescale and quality targets. This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in cutting edge technology, leading a highly skilled team of software engineers.

Your main responsibilities as a Software Team Leader will involve:

Delivery of software work packages to cost, schedule and quality targets

Estimating and planning work packages and allocating tasks to team members

Tracking progress and reporting to projects and line management

Line management of engineers ensuring a well-motivated team

Resource planning including forward load forecasting & reassignment of engineers

Identification and adoption of process improvements. Supporting root clause analysis and learning from experience (LFE)

Your skills and qualifications:

Extensive experience in engineering or a defence or related industry.

Knowledge of the software development life cycle and software development methodologies.

Knowledge of high level software languages including ADA and C++, with an aptitude to learn new languages, methodologies and tools as required.

Excellent problem solving.

Naval Combat Management System knowledge (desirable) with ability to quickly learn about new Combat System equipment as required.

Experience managing a team of 6+ engineers.

Budget management skills - experience of delivering work packages within budget

Project planning and resource management skills.

You will have good stakeholder management skills, ensuring all project points of contact are kept well informed and notified of any deviations as soon as they occur. You will have open and constructive relationships with colleagues across the team on all three sites.
